Mt. Amuyao (Barlig Backtrail)

Mt. Amuyao, Mountain Province

Standing at 2,702 masl, Mt. Amuyao, is the 10th highest mountain in the Philippines. It is a very challenging mountain, and is very popular among mountaineers.
But since the summit has two transmitters - PT&T and ABS-CBN, the access to the mountain has been made easy, with stairways all the way to the top. As some may call it - Stairways to Heaven.

We started the trek around 12noon at Barlig Central School. It was gloomy but no rain.
The trek starts with a stairway passing by some houses.

Registration Area

The first part of the uphill trek is a paved stairway passing by the world-famous rice terraces.

The trail is very steep and definitely very exhausting. Per our guide, the trek to the top would be around 5 - 8 hours.

After some uphills, we find ourselves very happy seeing some flat surfaces along the trails.

However, we were surprised when our guide told us that half way to the peak will be all uphills. This is the "stairway to heaven" part of the trail. At first, we thought it's a very easy uphill trek because it will lead us to the "heaven" hahaha. But we climbed up this stairway for 4 hours!
This is not heaven! These are upHells! Lol!

Water source 1 hour before the summit

It was already dark when we arrived at the peak. It also started to rain and is indeed very cold. It was a very tiresome upHells!
Good thing is, we don't have to pitch our tents outside the camp area. There are bunkbeds where we can stay inside and feel warm.

Come morning and it's still raining. Unfortunately, we haven't had sunrise and sea of clouds! Huhuhu! Well, reason to go back.

Our home for the night

It was still raining when we decided to go down.

If the uphill part was very exhausting, the downhill parts are very dangerous! The roots stairways are very slippery.

By the time we reached the bridge, we were very happy that we were able to successfully climb the top 10 highest mountain of the Philippines.

But wait, it doesn't end there. There's still a verrrrryyy long stairway going back to the jump-off!
You see, I am really starting to hate stairs! Hahaha!

And then of course, coffee!

Thank you Mt. Amuyao. You are indeed a very beautiful mountain.
