Dayhike: Mt. Kalatungan

Mt. Kalatungan Dayhike, 5th highest mountain of the Philippines

After our Mt. Apo Dayhike last year, we promised never to do a dayhike again for any major mountains! But as the quote goes, "promises are made to be broken". So here we go again with another Major-Major Dayhike - Mt. Kalatungan, the 5th highest mountain in the Philippines!

We were supposed to do a Kala-Wiji (Mt. Kalatungan traverse Mt. Wiji) during this dayhike. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to do an early trek without registering ourselves at the tourism office which opens around 6 AM. With such, we started our trek around 8 AM.

The Datu didn't allow us to do a Wiji traverse because it's already late. But well, there's always a reason to go back.

Lunch!

After our lunch, we waited for an hour to have a glimpse of Muleta Falls. It was gloomy that day and we got fogs all over the trail. We were kinda thankful though coz it wasn't hot especially at the open trails considering we trekked around noon already.

Good things come to those who wait! Hahaha! After an hour, she lets us see her!
Hello, shy Muleta!

2:30 PM - Junction

3:20 PM - Kalatungan Peak

It took us almost an hour to get to the peak! It rained hard while we were at the Junction area. The trail was very muddy and it made it hard for us to climb up. By the time we reached the peak, we were soaking wet! And it was indeed very cold. We were freezing already - to the point that our hands were already feeling numb.

So we just stayed around, I believe, less than 10 minutes at the peak. Then we decided to go down coz we were unable to bear the cold already that time.

4:00 PM - Back to Junction area
8:00 PM - Jump off

I told Wing we will go down to jump-off straight, without doing any stopovers. I don't like being inside a jungle at night - with only headlamp lights on. We stopped by for a minute at the view deck area to say hello to the other climbers who rested there for the night.

Fees and Policies

Overall, it was indeed a successful dayhike. There were 7 of us, out of 10, who managed to get to the peak and be amazed by the uniqueness of this mountain.

Thank you to Sicao Tours for the Mt. Kalatungan Dayhike.
