Merlina Marine Resort, Samal Island

Merlina Marine Resort, Samal Island

Instead of doing the usual Canibad trail from Mt. Puting Bato, Wing and I decided to do a traverse to this new resort in Samal Island - Merlina Marine, located at Aundanao.

This is the end part of the downhills from Mt. Puting Bato via Tayapoc trail. From here, you can go left to Canibad, or go right to Merlina.

If you are going to check Google Maps, Merlina is at the end of Aundanao road.

As an honest review, for me, Merlina Marine resort is not good for swimming - especially if you have kids. The place doesn't have a shoreline. However, there is a shoreline just beside the resort where locals lived.

What I do love though is that this resort is a very good spot for snorkeling and scuba diving. We tried snorkeling and we found a lot of live corals just near the resort. There are also a lot of fishes (a reason why you would see local fishermen nearby the resort).

Aside from snorkeling, scuba diving, there is also a bat cave nearby. You can ask the resort crew to guide you there.

For thrill-seekers, you may also try their giant swing - absolutely for Free!

Another adventure to experience at Merlina is that you can go up Mt. Puting Bato via Huyong-huyong Peak. There is a newly established trail from Huyong-huyong peak going down directly to Merlina - you can use this trail instead of going down via Tayapoc.
